Is America ready for Clinton or Obama as President?

America has come a long way since first discovered and colonized. But we have a dark past, and a lot of things we'd rather leave unmentioned that got us where we are today. Thankfully, yet slowly, we have overcome most of these bumps in the road to become a great nation today that is envied by many other nations that are maybe a little less fortunate in their trials.

That being said I shouldn't have to bring up some of the trials we have been through..Anyway America is definately on its way up, but one question comes to mind...Are we ready for a big change?

America has never seen a woman or black president. Looking back on our past and how long it took both black people and women to even have rights let alone lead everyone, it would seem as though many people would feel offended or cheated if they had to follow a black or woman president..

I believe America is ready to make that leap, and if Hilary Clinton or Barack Obama become our nation's next president it would make us stand out even more in the world and show how great of a nation we have become.

What makes me worry is what I hear everyday. Although we are moving ahead, I still can't help but notice the many discriminative tendancies still present in society today.. A good example of this was in my class today. A couple people were talking about the candidates for president. One guy (a white guy) said it would be cool if Obama won and how great it would be to have him as
president. I thought this was really good and it gave me a sense of hope and security. Of course this was quickly taken away as an asian girl added how she would never have her country run by a black man and Hilary Clinton was her choice. The man then came back with how he believed Hilary would ruin the country once a month when she got her period.. Although this is a small example and I know not everyone feels this way it makes me feel we aren't ready.

I personally think the USA is ready to make the leap, and break the long line of white, male presidents. Everyone needs to put aside their biases to color and gender and exept the future. We can do it!!
